President Muhammad Buhari Warns Against Electoral Violence For 2019 General Elections.


President Muhammad Buhari has hereby spoken in respect of the release of the 2019 election timetable and schedule of activities by the Independent National Electoral Commission - INEC.

The President spoke in Abuja while delivering a keynote address at the 15th Daily Trust Dialogue.

President Buhari made it a point of reminder to the politicians and other stakeholders that by the delivery of the timetable by INEC, the 2019 general election was fast approaching; hereby warning personnel  in the political space against a resort to violence in an attempt to influence electoral support.

The President who was represented by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation - Mr Boss Mustapha - stated that the president said his predecessor, President Goodluck Jonathan had already set a platform for peaceful political conduct by his actions in 2015 in the country.

In the President's words,the Secretary to the Government of the Federation spoke:

"I also call on politicians and political parties to pledge their commitment to the peaceful democratic process by urging their supporters to respect the electoral process and restrain them from violence. All aggrieved parties should seek redress through constitutional means and respect for the rule of law.

"On our own part, I want to assure Nigerians that my administration will not condone any violence, support any group or individual that undermine citizens' confidence in the ability of the country's political institution to conduct peaceful and successful elections".
